The 2014 City Technology APAC Distributor Conference held in Ningbo on March 6th was a great success with more than 20 distributor representatives attending from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. The key focus for the event was to generate discussion on key market and product trends and address challenges facing the gas detection industry, whilst recognising distributor achievements.

Wilson Tan, City Technology's APAC business leader, kicked off the conference with a welcome note from Sean Clay, Global Leader of City Technology. In his letter, Mr. Clay gave hearty thanks to all our distributors for helping City Technology stay competitive in the market and for achieving steady growth in a slowing global environment. Wilson reviewed business performance by sharing key numbers and data in 2013, and he also outlined some key challenges, especially the - contraction of the coal mining market, that could pose barriers to 2014's success. As a tradition, Wilson presented the award for the most successful distributor at the event. The award this year unsurprisingly went to Jiang Tao of G-Connect, who made significant contribution to the sales breakthrough of ammonia sensor in China. Also recognized were THY, who gave outstanding support to City's Smartborad transmitter project, and Shanghai Digital, who gained good market share from City's competitors .

Members of the City APAC presented market analysis and updates on new sensing technologies. Ray Peng, application sales engineer, and Frank Zheng, business development manager highlighted two market opportunities for gas sensing; flammable gas detection associated with the new national standards GB15322.1 and the emission market benefitting from stringent environment protection regulations and a huge government budget in this area. Anbo Guo and Ivy Wang, R&D and product marketing function manager responsible for the Smartboard transmitter project, shared the latest project status and launch schedule, -and also gave special tips on how to better respond to potential customers' inquiries. City's marketing communications - manager unveiled City's new logo design for the first time to the audience, which is part of City's rebranding project and will be officially launched in late March.

The event was also designed to gather feedback from distributors. Wilson Tan, APAC Business Leader, commented, "The annual distributor conference is always a great vehicle to understand more about the market from our distributors which helps us to focus our efforts on the right areas. We want to make sure our distributors are aligned with our strategic goals whilst we're backing them all the time whenever they are in need of a helping hand. "
